HOW DOES BASILICOAT WORK?
✅ CRYSTALLIZATION OF LIQUID SILICA
BASILICOAT® IS MADE FROM LIQUID SILICA, WHICH CRYSTALLIZES UPON CONTACT WITH SALTWATER.
THIS CREATES AN EXTREMELY SLIPPERY LAYER, MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR MARINE ORGANISMS TO ATTACH TO THE SURFACE.
✅ PREVENTION OF MARINE GROWTH
THE SURFACE BECOMES BOTH SLIPPERY AND ALKALINE (WITH A PH LEVEL SIMILAR TO SEAWATER), SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCING THE ABILITY OF BARNACLES, ALGAE, AND OTHER ORGANISMS TO ADHERE.

SURFACE PREPARATION
✅ PROPER PREPARATION
PREPARATION IS KEY TO ENSURING EFFECTIVE PROTECTION AND LONG-LASTING BASILICOAT® PERFORMANCE.
✅ CLEANING
🟢 REMOVE ANY LOOSE, CRACKED, OR PEELING PAINT USING A SCRAPER OR SANDING.
🟢 PRESSURE WASH THE BOAT TO ELIMINATE DIRT, ALGAE, AND OTHER MARINE GROWTH.
✅ DRYING
🟢 THE HULL MUST BE COMPLETELY DRY BEFORE APPLYING BASILICOAT®.
🟢 THIS IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT IN HUMID CONDITIONS OR AFTER RECENT SEA USE.
✅ SUITABLE SURFACES
👉 PLASTIC & WOODEN BOATS: USUALLY, ONLY CLEANING AND DRYING ARE REQUIRED BEFORE APPLYING BASILICOAT®.
👉 ALUMINUM BOATS, DRIVES, AND PROPELLERS:
✔️ IF A BASE COAT IS PRESENT (WITHOUT SILICONE OR GLUCOSE-BASED EPOXY): APPLY BASILICOAT® DIRECTLY OVER IT.
⚠️ NOTE: IF SILICONE PAINT OR GLUCOSE-BASED EPOXY IS PRESENT, REMOVE IT THROUGH SANDING OR CLEANING BEFORE APPLYING BASILICOAT®.

WITH OR WITHOUT ACTIVATOR
🟩 WITH ACTIVATOR (For boats used in freshwater)
🟢 MEASURING & MIXING
✔️ Calculate the required amount of BASILICOAT® (1L covers 8–10 m²).
✔️ Mix 50 ml of activator per liter of BASILICOAT®.
✔️ Stir well to ensure even blending, including any sediment at the bottom.
🟢 PAINTING
✔️ Apply a thin coat using a roller or brush.
✔️ Extend coverage a few centimeters above the waterline to prevent growth.
🟢 DRYING
✔️ Let BASILICOAT® cure for at least 4 hours before launching in freshwater.
✔️ The coating does not fully harden in air, but the activator ensures it cures properly in water.
🟢 LAUNCHING
✔️ After 4 hours, the boat can be placed in freshwater.
🟩 WITHOUT ACTIVATOR (For boats launching into saltwater)
🟢 PAINTING
✔️ Stir BASILICOAT® thoroughly before application.
✔️ Apply a thin coat using a roller or brush.
✔️ Paint a few centimeters above the waterline for optimal protection.
🟢 WATER PROTECTION
✔️ BASILICOAT® is sensitive to rain and freshwater before curing.
✔️ Keep the boat protected from moisture until launching.
🟢 LAUNCHING IN SALTWATER
✔️ Launch into seawater with ≥0.4% salinity within a few days of application.
✔️ BASILICOAT® fully cures within 48 hours in saltwater.
🟢 AFTER CURING
✔️ Once hardened, the boat is fully protected against marine growth and can be used in any type of water.

SPECIAL RECOMMEND-ATIONS
🟢 SURFACE TEMPERATURE
✔️ Apply in dry weather at 5°C or higher.
✔️ Drying time may be longer in cold or humid conditions.
🟢 PRIMER USAGE
✔️ Avoid using silicone- or glucose-based paints as a base layer, as BASILICOAT® does not adhere well to these surfaces.
🟢 ABOVE THE WATERLINE
✔️ Always apply a few centimeters above the waterline to prevent marine growth just below the surface.
